Here are a couple of images of Mike and Brittany dressed by Mignonette and Humble Collective at this weekend’s Holi Festival of  Colours in Naperville. Brittany is wearing the Collette Dress (which has a cocktail dress underneath the fully-removable skirt!) and Mike is wearing a gorgeous pinstripe suit from Humble Collective. I was so very excited to share this beautiful wedding I worked on with the readers of Boho Weddings!

A few years ago, I worked on a gown for the gorgeous Melissa J. in San Francisco. She wanted something Mad Men-inspired with a modern twist for her wedding, and she didn’t want to over-emphasize or downplay her natural assets. She also wanted to somehow incorporate elements of her grandmother’s veil.

Here’s a quick  rundown of the look:

The Dress
For her gown, Melissa wanted to reference the feel of Mad Men’s Joan, the sexy secretary known for her amazing style and voluptuous figure. We also wanted to try and incorporate some elements from her grandmother’s veil into the gown. Because we were doing such a structured gown, we decided on a candlelight silk dupioni with a cotton cady lining, and to emphasize the bride’s figure we added small pleats around the neckline of the crossover bodice, and deeper pleats on the skirt. Melissa isn’t a fan of ruffles and bows, so we decided on an obi-style closure for her sash, giving it a romantic touch with wired resin flowers from her grandmother’s veil.

The accessories
Melissa, a talented crafter, teamed the gown with a cage veil and fascinator that she made herself, plus earrings from Sulu Design, a friend’s Etsy shop. She gave her attendants earrings and fascinators from Sulu Design as well. As a final touch, she wore a bracelet made from the remaining flowers on her grandmother’s veil.

Thank you so much to Traci Griffin Photography for the stunning images, Melissa for being gorgeous, and of course Kelly from Boho Weddings for publishing!

This is simply too much – Mignonette is in Chicago Magazine this month, along with my personal favorites, Amanda Archer (a fellow San Franciscan transplant) and Veronica Schaeffer (wowza). I couldn’t be happier, or more stunned!  What an honor to be in such a well-respected publication after such a short time on the scene! The pressure’s on to live up to the hype!

Read the whole mention here!  Oh my gosh!

I’ve been as busy as a bee over here at Mignonette HQ, cutting and sewing and draping and catching up on Mad Men (can anyone recommend a way to get “Zou Bisou Bisou” to stop playing on a loop in my head?).  I’m really excited to be heading into the home stretch on several gowns for April and June (no May, thankfully, so I have some sewing time), partly because I want to deliver them, and partly because I’m excited to send them into the world. Here’s a little peekaloo of Steph D’s gown:

It’s going to be so gorgeous – silk chiffon hand-draped over silk lining, with POCKETS! Can’t wait.  Also, I just started working with a really incredible seamstress, Krista Walker, and I’m loving every minute of it. She is an expert on strapless boned bodices, and I’m learning a lot from her!

I’m so pleased to share this awesomely creative shoot with the readers of both Eco and Elsie AND Be U Weddings today!

“For this Boardwalk Empire-themed shoot, we transformed real couple Amanda and Katrina Miller into a glamorous pair straight from the Roaring Twenties. Event planner Carlene Smith from Naturally Yours Events turned the space into a clubby, Art Deco/modern den. Deer heads dressed up with plaid scarves, mismatched shot glasses, and a candy bar from Amy’s Candy Bar all helped to complement the irreverent Jazz Age layout. After a ceremony with a backdrop of vintage suitcases and stunning floor-to-ceiling windows, guests were invited to find their seats with Katherine Anne Confections’ truffle escort cards.

The save-the-date cards and invitation suite from Spilled Ink Press were made to look like event tickets, with round menu cards and framed table numbers. Fig Catering dished up pork loin onto elaborate china with cut-glass chargers. Tablecloths and napkins in shot silk from Tablescapes added an element of grown-up glamour, complimented by stunning flowers in wintry greys and bright whites from Marguerite Gardens. The Art Deco theme was echoed perfectly by a stunning cake from Celestial Kitchens with architectural motifs.

Bride Amanda wore beautiful Swarovski pearls and sterling silver from Due Sorelle, and bride Katrina’s suits, shoes, and pocket squares were designer vintage from Humble Collective and Fresh and Proper. Amanda’s gowns and dresses were made by Mignonette Bridal with at least 50% vintage materials. You can really see their love for each other in these amazing photos by Tuan Bui!”
